The best way to deal with this problem is to, when your computer seizes up suddenly, to close all open programs, open up the Task Manager, open the Processes tab, and Did you find it, or get it back up to speed??
I slowed it down for my own amusement. Lot of programs can cause momentary spikes, but background processes usually don't. the most obvious being an improper shutdown. in once cases, leaving their tools CD inside a machine.
