Then i tried to install windows xp pro on same pc same hd, same error. I split a 15GB logical partition out of C: with Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 I changed the drive letter of that partition to E: and the label to Vista. You can make one on another Windows 7 computer by going to Control Panel -> Backup and Restore -> Create a system repair disc. I used Gparted 0.4.3 with the gui. When I installed XP64, the Vista boot menu disappeared and was replaced by a new boot menu giving me a choice between XP and XP64; no Vista. When i go to re-install windows, it reaches the screen after the windows logo and sits at a black screen with a mouse pointer.

I'm going to look into more of the LiveCD/DVD *nix programs for working on my system. Otherwise the alternative is to use the restore method from the XP installation CD. I tried everything to get to XP to boot again (failed to start within the multi boot VISTA menu) and was only able to bring it back to life by running Well in doing so the list of OS's to repair is empty.
